ENVIRONMENT

The environmental footprint of Brändö Lax fish is on average only a sixth of that of Finnish beef. Compared to pork or poultry, our rainbow trout’s carbon footprint is about half. Aquaculture is a more ecological production method than traditional agricultural food production. Fish farming also does its part in helping conserve the overfished species of the oceans.

Our feeding method enables sustainable fish farming. Baltic Blend is a feed with raw materials exclusively from the Baltic Sea area. When feed raw materials from the world’s oceans are replaced with local nutrients from the Baltic, fish farming can remove more nutrients from the Baltic Sea cycle than it emits into it. This nutrient recycling makes our aquaculture so sustainable.

Fish are super-efficient in making the most of feed – only with a kilo of feed, the fish grows a kilo, leaving the carbon footprint of production at a very low level. Due to the development of fish feeds, the use of wild fish for the feed has decreased significantly since the 1990s.

Brändö Lax is true local food. We deliver our fish produce in ice beds to the continent in just a few hours.
